Another company's quality loses to move to china

Purchased in August 2011 for power and no more adding oil to gas. Also got the solid blade attachment. Figured I would be set for life (I'm 58). Was really hard to start, but once going it seemed to work pretty well. On third use, the motor felt frozen when I tried to start it. Pulling on the starter cord would not budge anything. After about 20 "tugs" it turned and started. Used four or five times last fall.
This spring I pulled it out, checked the oil and fired it up. Worked ok but, again, hard to start. Then, on my second attempt to use it, it did the "frozen engine" thing again. This time after a few pulls, something broke inside. It just rattles when I pull the starter cord. It's going in the trash, lesson learned. I'm out almost $300 but I'm avoiding this brand at all costs. For fun I'll tear it down and see what was frozen.

Solid product
This is a solid and functional trimmer. I purchased up from a curved shaft Troy-Bilt (wanted the convenience of the straight shaft). I haven't been disappointed. This trimmer starts immediately, runs smoothly, and is comfortable with the included shoulder strap. My only complaint is the placement of the engine housing - it sticks out too high above the shaft, and is uncomfortably close to my arm. I have nearly burned myself on the housing a few times because the natural holding position puts the housing right against my right arm. Troy-Bilt could easily have fixed this by dropping the housing below the shaft without sacrificing balance or performance.

I bought this for my husband to replace his much less powerful 2 cycle weed wacker. He wanted a 4 cycle one so he didn't have to mix oil with gas. He used it one time so far and was blown away how well it works! But be prepared to be messy - this throws grass everywhere and he was covered heavily with grass from head to toe! Maybe it takes some technique to not get so much on yourself - but it is worth it to cut down on time. This took him a fraction of the amount of time to trim the yard (3/4 acre). Plus he loves the power and enjoys it so much more!
