cordless or cord
I had my heart set on a cordless, but now I am glad I purchased this model. Two things sold me on it. The first was the extra reach. I needed it for some of my bushes that are over six feet high. The second was those hardened blades. I knew they would last longer.
The design and being able to hold it with one hand also helped, as did the fact that it could handle thicker branches.
I do not understand the reviewer that needed two passes. For the thicker branches , you hold it there and it eventually chews thru them. I comes down to taking your time. The longer blade also makes it easier to shape large bushes.
This hedge trimmer has cut everything I threw at it and hardly missed a beat. It easy to balance with one hand , but it does become heavy although still manageable with only one hand.

Awesome tool....another update 6/30/2012
It seems people are finding this useful so I thought I would write another update. This B&D Hedge Hog Trimmer is a real work horse. As I have mentioned in the comments section, last week I cut through another cord, and it went through it like butter. This time I spliced it. I'm not paying for another 100 foot cord, those things are expensive! LOL. It was an easy fix, and it is wrapped up well enough that I don't think I will have a problem. I should also mention that I still haven't lifted a finger to maintain it, except for oiling the blades once. Yup, once! I'm so happy to have bought this! Just be CAREFUL!!! :-)

Just to update, I have used this to cut through very thick ivy, etc., and it is still going, and cutting fairly well. I should also note that I have not maintained this at all. I have not cleaned or oiled the blades, etc., and it still works very well. I am VERY pleased with this and recommend it VERY highly

Powerful Trimmer!
Given it's light weight, this is a remarkably powerful machine. 1/4" branches are no problem at all. It is well balanced and light enough for one-handed operation when you are stretching to reach that elusive branch from your ladder. I am replacing a 12 year old B & D trimmer that finally died, so I am optimistic about the longevity of this one.
