Big boys garden toy.
Ok so some things are expensive, and some things are cheap. This was expensive, and there's nothing cheap about it.
I bought this after my bro-inlaw talked about his. I saw it was a lot more expensive than the others, but I do so much weed eating I have become accustome to buying them often.
It doesn't even feel like a normal weed eater. It pull starts smoothly like you'd think a 4 stroke would. You know how you have to yank the cord and the whole weedeater pulls with it? Well this is the first time I pulled the cord and didn't have to fight the balance of the engine like a yo-yo each time you pull.
Started up smooth and even sounds different than every other weedeater I've owned. The thing that points out top quality in this is the engine and everything about it. The other things I could see being close to the same on the competition, but the engine to me is what counts more than anything. This isn't something you buy at walmart and toss out 2 years later. Best Trimmer I've Ever Owned
I bought this Echo after burning through a couple other major brand trimmers that would overheat and eventually fail to start. This little devil just keeps going. I used this little guy hard last year, and I just finished a couple hours of high rpm trimming to get ready for spring, and it didn't slow down one time. My other trimmers would have overheated and quit already.
I love the string holder also. I spins so nice and free, and loading string is easy and fast.
I am quite impressed with Echo motors. I have an Echo chainsaw also that works great.
I wish that I had discovered Echo tools a few years ago. Their stuff just works.
Echo Service Support is Fatal
I bought this after seeing it displayed at Home Depot. I saw it was a lot more expensive than the others, but I assumed it was a quality product; i.e. you remember the quality long after you've forgotten the price.
However, I also forgot my past bum experiences trying to get service/replacement parts for a previous Echo trimmer and a backpack blower. A year after I bought each of them, Home Depot no longer stocked the critical air-filter service part. Usually, it seemed, because the product had been replaced by a newer model. This absence of service parts is a real bummer, which doesn't happen when you buy true quality like Stihl.
Moreover, the hassles of contacting Echo, and being shoved off to GardenerInc.com (as the official parts distributor) is also a real pain. For example, GardenerInc has an online ordering website but provides no S&H info. Not until you tediously enter the page full of Purchaser info do you find that an overpriced $10.00 air-filter...
